Operation Predator is a new iOS app that was released after development from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division (ICE). It tracks and alerts of information involving crimes ranging from child exploitation to transnational gangs, and everything in between. Basically, it is for any crime that falls under the department’s jurisdiction. Earlier this month, on September 12th, ICE prepared a press release regarding the new app.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is launching a new smartphone app – the first of its kind in U.S. federal law enforcement – designed to seek the public's help with fugitive and unknown suspect child predators. All tips can be reported anonymously through the app, by phone or online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week…..”

After downloading it, I decided to take a look around the app. It is small, but right to the point. It gives you the option of reporting the crime via a toll free tip line or online. Both claim to give you, as the reporter anonymity.

There are also tabs to view the most wanted, under “Alerts” as well as viewing news of those that have been captured and/or prosecuted. It also has a list of partners, including www.missingkids.com and www.amberalert.com .

Laurie Myers is a staunch supporter of victim’s rights, as well as being a superior advocate for children. She founded Community Voices and had this to say about “Operation Predator”;

“There isn't a day that goes by when we don't hear about news stories about predators using technology to prey on kids. It's great to see technology being used in a positive way to keep our communities safe.”

You can get it right from the app store . Sorry Android users.
