As we're closing in on the one-week mark before Apple's Sept. 10 announcement, which presumably will introduce and perhaps release the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, more and more leaks are coming to light. In an earlier article , we referenced Apple-tracker Sonny Dickson, who has been largely in charge of many leaks the industry has seen this summer.
On Sept. 3, Business Insider and CNN are both profiling the man who has made Apple's summer a nightmare. For background, CNN’s Philip Elmer-DeWitt chatted with Dickson and determined that he is a teenager from Australia who is “old enough to drink.” According to BI, all the photos that Dickson posts are leaked photos of products that aren't available yet, and that he gets all his info from people who work for Apple in China.
So are his actions illegal? BI notes that when the iPhone 4 prototype was found and subsequently sold to gadget site Gizmodo, both Gizmodo and the finder, Brian Hogan, were in serious trouble with Apple.
However, Dickson states that he's not breaking any laws. He's kept an eye out on his blog and said that “computers based in Cupertino” have visited his site 900 times just in August and the Australian National Security has stopped by 67 times, apparently without any consequences falling down on him. But perhaps Apple is just waiting to bring down the hammer. They aren’t usually a company to take offenses lightly.
CNN notes that Dickson got his start as an iOS developer when Apple first released the iPhone in 2007. He began to pull out information from beta software and began to make a name for himself.
