Looks like Apple's iWatch might have a different purpose that what rumors had indicated. According to MacRumors on Oct. 10 , an analyst has discovered that the watch might be geared more toward being a command center for homes.

An analyst for Cantor Fitzgerald, Brian White states that, "As an Apple supplier, our contract offered insight into the "iWatch" and described this potential new device as much more than an extension of your iPhone…"

He notes that it could be similar to the Nest Thermostat and give the homeowners the ability to control the heating and cooling of a house but then also go so far as to control the lighting, audio and video in a home from the watch as well.

Earlier reports about the iWatch had it on level with FitBit and personal fitness trackers. It has also been compared to the smartwatch put out my Samsung earlier this year, which is described by VentureBeat as a “relentlessly inessential” accessory to phones.

MacRumors' report does not that White's findings haven't always been spot on. This includes his prediction that this year's iPhone would come in multiple screen sizes. So take this information with a grain of salt.

If the iWatch does end up being a home automation system, is that something you’d be interested in? Or would it depend on how many other pieces of hardware you’d need to buy?
