The iPhone 5S release last month may not have given Apple the boost they'd expected. According to a report posted on October 29, 2013, at The New York Times website, they've seen a decline in overall profits, even though iPhone sales have increased.
The article notes the popular tech company sold about 33 million iPhone's in the quarter, which seems a pretty nice increase when compared to the nearly 27 million sold during the same time-span a year ago. However, earlier this week "Apple reported a profit of $7.5 billion for the fourth fiscal quarter, on revenue of $37.5 billion, down from earnings of $8.2 billion on $36 billion in revenue during the same period last year."
So while the iPhone 5S release seems to have given a nice boost in smartphone sales for Apple, their iPad and Mac sales have dwindled. Both product likes showed a decrease in sales when compared to the same time frame from last year.
Tero Kuittinen, an Independent technology analyst for Alekstra said Apple's profits "are really good numbers obviously, but I think the tablet problem is undermining them.”
Do you think the iPad popularity is beginning to fizzle out? Perhaps the new Android tablets have become too much competition for Apple. What are your thoughts?
