If you have ever found yourself bored while you’re online, first of all, something is wrong, because there’s always something on the World Wide Web that should be able to hold your interest, but hey, occasionally boredom will afflict you. When it does, you can always give StumbleUpon a whirl. In basic terms, StumbleUpon is a random web site selector.
Don’t worry, signing up is easy, and will be a benefit to you. Select a Username which will be your StumbleUpon identity. Once you’re all signed up, you’ll be able to choose an interest, that, for lack of a better word, interests you. You’ll be able add and delete interests from their abundant stock of categories. You can then choose one ‘interest’, or choose “All Interests” and have StumbleUpon choose pages randomly for you from those interests that you’ve selected. Either way, you’ll be entertained for some time.
There’s a recently added feature which even allows you to make a ‘List’, that will act as ‘Bookmarks’. These lists will enable you to save and return to pages that really catch your interest. Before embarking on your stumbling, you’ll see ‘Now You Can Collect the Whole Internet’, which is actually a pretty cool catchphrase for their lists.
When you’re done viewing one page, click the ‘Stumble’ button at the top frame, and it will take you to another page. You can vote to give ‘Thumbs Up’ or ‘Thumbs Down’ to the pages which you like or dislike. These votes will enable you to go back and select pages you’ve liked to be added to your lists, or just for you to review. You’re also given the ability to add your own pages to their universe of selections which you think are interesting. Pages that you’ve added will automatically be placed in your StumbleUpon ‘Likes’.
If you’d like to share your comments with the StumbleUpon Community on a particular site, you can do that, too. Pages that you’ve found interesting can also be shared on Facebook , Twitter , and LinkedIn .
See? There’s something that will always catch your ‘interest’ on StumbleUpon . You ungrateful kids will never have an excuse to say that you’re bored online again. Now, back in my day...
