Is the social media site Facebook down? As of this report, it appears the social networking site is up and running, albeit with issues. Various reports have been going around the internet that there are error messages and problems in terms of posting status updates, commenting on them or even clicking "Like" on these posts.

An Oct. 21 report from Wall Street Journal indicates that Facebook was suffering a "system outage" on Monday morning which prevented users from posting new status updates on their profile or timeline feeds. They also reported that it was unclear just how widespread the issue was, but noted that it seemed to be coming as a result of the Facebook iPhone app. The problem came when a user tried to post a status message on their iPhone through the app, but it never posted.

However, other problems seemed to appear online through computers when users tried to click "Like" or comment on new status updates. This could be due to the fact that an iPhone user had posted the update and it was experiencing issues. According to WSJ's report, the Facebook company did not respond with any comments with regard to the issues.

It's not the first time the site has experienced problems and with the amount of users who congregate on the network or check out their messages, friend requests and other activities, it's no surprise an outage occurs here or there. Of course, it could also be blamed on the millions of Candy Crush Saga, Farmville and other game players using the site, but that would be too easy.

Facebook stock reached a new high just last week, hitting as high as $54 a share. The company, founded and created by Mark Zuckerberg has been operating since 2004 with millions of users around the world using the social network.
