The annual event could possibly encourage students to learn more about a career in technology.
Maybe it could have been created to address and raise awareness for the need for qualified technology workers.
Another theory is that it was developed so the population as a whole could recognize the contributions to education made by tech professionals. Now really, can you imagine a world without computers, smartphones, or (shudder) the internet? How would we function? OMG, we would have to use paper encyclopedias, we would have to physically ring a door bell, or worse, actually speak at dinner. Digression is now over
The field of technology is rapidly changing. What is cool today, will be out of date tomorrow. What you bought yesterday has already been upgraded. Case and point; this little ditty is being typed on a all-in-one computer with a touch screen. It has 4 gigs of ram, a 750 gig hd, dolby surround sound, a cd/dvd r/w and is energy star compliant. It is from 2010. It is way out of date.
Remember, a techie is not just one that deals with computers though. Your car won’t run without an ASE certified TECH. The plane won’t take off without its Maintenance TECH. Your teeth will be dirty without a Dental TECH and your 911 system won’t work without an Emergency Medical TECHnician. So honor them all.
