Dentists recommended a full two minutes of brushing, in order for the chemical agents in toothpaste to be sufficiently scrubbed into your teeth, all your teeth. Yet, what if you didn't have to brush for that full two minutes and could still brush your teeth clean? What if that two minutes was broken down into six seconds? Would nine out of ten dentists agree that it would be enough to clean your teeth? Well, the folks at Blizzident hope your dentist agrees with that six second brushing.
Blizzident has created, using 3D printing, a custom made toothbrush device (it looks nothing like a traditional toothbrush, more like a football players mouth guard) to cut brushing down to six seconds. The device is made from a custom 3D scan of your teeth, then Blizzident creates a device that fits your mouth perfectly. Filled with rows of soft bristles, the device is made to clean your gums and get in between your teeth, all in a six second round of biting and chewing motions. So much would cutting off 114 seconds from your brushing time be worth to you?
Blizzident is selling the device for a mere $299. A replacement costs $159. The 3D scan can be anywhere from $75-$200. This might be the world's first luxury toothbrush. The company has said they will be sharing information related to clinical studies, to prove if the device works or not. For $300 it better shine my teeth better than a brand new Mercedes still on the lot. Yet, regardless of the price this clearly illustrates how 3D printing will slowly (if not expensively at first) infiltrate the consumer market.
