During the government shut down single mom and waitress Sarah Hoidahl did something surprising. Sarah works as a waitress at Ruby Tuesdays in Concord, NH. One day two female soldiers came in to eat and Sarah heard them saying they would have to order something “light” because they were not getting paid.
At the end of the meal instead of bringing a check Sarah delivered a note to their table that said, “Thanks to the government shutdown people like you that protect this country are not getting paid, however I still am. Lunch is on me thanks for serving ladies! Have a good day!”
Sarah knows something about financial struggles as a single mom living on tips. The story was posted on Facebook and Ellen DeGeneres caught wind of the story and flew Sarah out to be on her show. During the show Ellen gave Sarah back the money she paid for the soldiers’ lunches. Sarah also received a 50” flat screen TV and $10,000 from Shutterfly . Later on Ellen gave the single mom a new car, once again bringing tears of joy to Sarah.
Moral of the story, “It does pay to be kind to others”.
