Mount Etna has always been active, and whenever it erupts Europe goes jittery. It happened again, and towns around the volcano’s slopes have been covered with ash.

Italy’s Etna is Europe’s most active and probably the largest volcano, and the last time we heard of a similar eruption was way back in 1992.

According to a global post report on November 24, the volcanic eruption saw Italian authorities heading for much trouble shooting so as normal life doesn’t get affected.

Though no injuries have been reported as yet, people have been left a worried lot. The impact has even forced the administration to close down air corridors.

However, the airport of Catania, close to Mount Etna has not been shut down and is fully in operation.

The Etna volcano has found its place in history as the oldest ever. The first ever recorded eruption was in 1500 BC, and it has erupted at least 200 times since then.

Etna also finds mention in poet Virgil’s works.
