Recently after perusing and/visiting my usual online and retail hang outs, I was introduced to the Logitech TK830 Keyboard. It appears to be the first of its kind; incorporating a standard QWERTY keyboard and a touch pad that fully takes advantage of Windows 8 and 8.1 touch gestures. In essence, it appears that Logitech has effectively combined merges two previous Logitech peripherals: the Tablet Keyboard and the Touchpad T650.
Basically between this product as well as Apples creations, we should see a new fiction book based on Earnest Hemingways’ “For whom the bell tolls.” It will be called “For whom the mouse tolls.” This is simply due to the enormous selection of touch devices, whether it is iOS, OSx, Windows, Android and even my beloved Linux.
This was tested on a touch screen all in one system with Windows 8.1 installed. The (already installed) Logitech Unifying Receiver which is a USB device picked it up faster than I could measure it. It came with the first set of AAA batteries which is always nice. They advertise a greater than six month battery life. So far after being installed for a week and even with constant (4-5 hours a day) the battery level is at 99%. How do I know that? It is because of the battery level software automatically installed.
The keystrokes were extremely smooth. What I enjoyed the most though was the incorporated touch pad. It took full advantage of what Windows 8 has to offer. Some may say they could replace two devices with this keyboard; a mouse and keyboard.
The touch pad and its movements were extremely smooth and could easily replace any mouse or other pointing device.
The keyboard gets a 4 out of 5 star grade here as there is one improvement made; Elevation. There are no fold out pegs or legs that would elevate it to a more ergonomic position, which may not make a difference for the casual user, but for someone who depends on the computer for a living, it makes all the difference. The way around this is to buy a wrist pad which is a nominal cost for such a great device.
