Mexico’s Pacific coast is fast making arrangements to blunt the effects of a possible storm. The tropical storm Sonia has been forecast as hitting the coast early Monday, reports ABC News on Nov. 4, 2013..
Going by predictions from the US National Hurricane Center, the tropical storm was centered around 60 miles south-southwest of Culicacan.
That was late on Sunday. Now that Sonia is fast approaching land, it is expected that winds of 40 mph velocity will lash over the land.
It is also expected that the velocity might slow down a bit before it lashes the shore. In anticipation of the storm, schools in five municipalities in the state of Sinaloa would remain closed for Monday.
Further arrangements include setting up of as much as 60 shelters for those who would have to evacuate their homes in view of the approaching storm.
The government of Sinaloa state also canceled classes on Monday in five municipalities that could be affected by the storm.
Rainfall to the tune of 15 cm is also being anticipated over Sinaloa and Durango.
