Healthcare.gov may be back up and running as of Dec. 1, but Republicans in opposition still have concerns, mainly about the security of the system. On Sunday, Representative Mike Rogers, R of Michigan told Meet the Press that the security of the site "does not meet the minimal standards of the private sector."
His stance is backed up by an earlier CNBC report , in which a security expert stated that no security system was in place for the healthcare marketplace. White-hat hacker and chief executive of TrustedSec David Kennedy testified about the flaws of Healthcare.gov in November.
According to Kennedy, the website wasn't built with any kind of security in place and it will take months or a full year to work in a system of security at this point. At the hearing another expert stated that the website would need to be completely redone from scratch.
As a rebuttal to Rep. Rogers' stance, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D- Md. claimed that Republicans are simply trying to sabotage the effort by not working together with other congressional members. The representative from Maryland went on to discuss how the system does need some work, but did not appear to address these glaring security issues.
Since the issue was raised back in November, contractors and government officials have been releasing fixes to allow people to log onto the site to find health insurance. However, it seems no word has been released about what has been done to make personal information secure.
