Technology this year has been amazing, as it is every year. We’ve gotten things we’ve been waiting on for years (Ahem, Xbox, PlayStation) and items we never knew we needed in the form of wearable tech.

The overall theme in tech this year seems to have been aimed at pushing boundaries. While there admittedly were a few standard updates, tech this year took on solving problems we didn’t know needed solving, finding ways to innovate in never thought of before areas. Some of these inventions were so simplistic and easy, they seemed almost foolish, but they solved problems in a way that made them genius, which is pretty sexy.

Chromecast was one such example of this. To most people in younger generations, the dongle seems redundant. But for those who have no need for or ability to have another media streaming device that would hook up to a TV, it was simple, affordable and smart—qualities most successful tech inventions strive for.

On the other side of the spectrum, Google wowed the world this year by introducing their wearable device. Far from simple or affordable, the device allowed users to envision a future they’d only dreamed of. Admittedly, we haven’t seen Glass’s final form ye t. But what we’ve seen in 2013 has impressed enough of us to have already pledged our faith in it.

In 2014, we hope to see more tech go the route of 2013. We’re looking to see what barriers we can break and how efficient we can become.
