Google Glass will be released this year; we can finally say that. As we edge closer and closer to the device’s projected release date, more information is becoming available about what advancements developers are creating for Glass.

According to Hollywood Reporter’s Adrian Pennington on Jan. 2, ahead of the International Consumer Electronic Show on Jan. 7, many ideas are being thrown around about how to use the device. One idea that is gaining traction would be the ability to use Glass at a sporting event to watch instant replays from broadcasters or to even stream feeds from other Glass users in the stadium.

A director with Turner Broadcasting’s Emering Technologies Group says that he and his team are pursing a way to make that idea into a reality. Jeff Eddings says, “We are looking at sporting use cases where we think there are some interesting possibilities for using Google Glass so that coverage of an event is not limited to the high-end multi-camera setup of the broadcaster, but widened to dozens, if not hundreds, of fans with the Glass.”

With other sporting events players have been experimenting with how to wear Glass during gameplay to provide a completely unseen perspective to the audience and also to serve as a training guide for those who want to learn.

Pennington notes that this year at International CES a new section will be entirely devoted to smart watches, which marks a significant trend. According to the report, sales in 2012 of wearable tech were up 300 percent.
