If you have one of Apple’s newest iPhones and updated to the unexpected iOS 8.01 on Wednesday, you might be wishing you could command+z that decision. According to The Verge on Thursday, many users who updated found that they l ost cell service and use of the Apple Touch ID, some pretty basic functions a phone should have.

Apple has announced that it is “working around the clock” to fix the issue with iOS 8.02 and that the update will be released in a few days to fix those bugs. However, if you’d like to have cell reception in the meantime—a good idea considering they aren’t certain when the update will be good to go— Apple has announced a temporary fix.

As MacWorld notes, users will need to connect their phones to their computers and revert to iOS 8 . Users will need to connect their phone to iTunes and then back up their phone. The Apple support page notes that iCloud backups won’t restore you to any earlier versions, which for iPhone 6 and 6 plus users is only iOS 8. Then, depending on which device you have—the 6 or the 6 plus—there are specific instructions to follow that will get you your desired result. The support page notes that the Health app won’t work once you revert back to iOS 8, but that’s a small price to pay for being able to regain cell service and the use of Touch ID.

Of course, this update nightmare closely follows the reports that the newest phones are actually bending when people place them in their pockets for hours at a time. It’s absurd that the phone couldn’t maintain its structure under the non-extreme conditions of a pocket, but there’s an easy way to prevent this: Get a hard case for the phone.

If you’re using any generation of the phone that isn’t the absolute latest, you shouldn’t be having this problem, so don’t use this as an excuse to not update to the latest iOS. Of course there are issues with space and the amount of time it takes, but the update is pretty bug-free otherwise. Hopefully, all iPhone users will be able to say the same as updates keeping rolling out.
