Google is sweet 16 today. And to celebrate they have a new logo. Google changes its logo for special occasions like holidays, famous events and birthdays of famous people (and birthdays of famous companies like Google).

Like many of its recent doodles, Google created an animated logo for its birthday today. The animation starts when you land on Google's home page. The "G" and red "o" move and the "G" marks the height of the "o." When the "o" moves you see other marks on the wall as if the "o" has grown. The "o" does a little dance as if s/he is excited. Then the "l" moves over to get its height measured. The "G" seems a bit surprised by the height of the "l." The "o" drops his/her shoulders as if disappointed that the "l" is so much taller. Then they all move back into place.

If you missed the logo you can see it in the Google doodle archives .

Google stated on their archive page for this logo "What is both big and small and celebrating a sweet sixteen? We are! Happy birthday to us!"

Google's very first "special" logo was done way back on August 30th of 1998 when the two founders went to the "Burning Man Festival." They wanted people to know they were "out of the office" so they placed a man behind the yellow "o" and left. The first logo wasn't very fancy but it gave them the idea to start decorating the logo. Since then thousands of logos have been created for many occasions.

Happy birthday, Google.
