As the Internet Deals Examiner, I come across tech-related gadgets and website technology all the time that helps folks take advantage of algorithms designed to cull the best deals from various products and services.

One such site that helps travelers uncover the most economical airport parking is called Discount Park and Ride . Those who find themselves often going on jaunts out of town for business or pleasure know that while parking directly in the short-term or long-term airport parking lots can be very convenient, that convenience usually comes with a steep price. Maybe that’s why the website’s tagline spells out the conundrum perfectly when it states: “We've got your perfect spot. Travel is expensive. Parking doesn't have to be.”

Pop in the city name or airport-seaport code and go

In order to search for inexpensive parking deals, users can begin to type a city name, seaport/airport name or code and the appropriate dates and times that they’ll need the service. For example, typing JFK into the site’s search engine revealed several good parking options for John F. Kennedy International Airport parking.

The first option was named U-Save Airport Parking at JFK , which lists a price of $10.95 for the specific dates of October 19 through November 6 that I chose. Not only does Discount Park and Ride let me know that’s a savings of 66% off of the airport’s parking prices, they also provide other helpful details about services offered via the parking options. That includes information that let me know U-Save is open 24 hours a day with free shuttle service and even car washing and detailing services. Other choices that followed also listed luggage assistance. JFK Long Term Parking and Air Park Kennedy even offered pet services.

Even if travelers aren’t sure of their airport codes, the website will help them select the correct option. When I began to type “O’Hare” into the search engine, my request for the ORD code that equals Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport popped up as an available choice.

Using similar dates as I listed to find parking near JFK, I was able to uncover two options for nearby O’Hare parking – and the site listed exactly how far away the airport parking lots reside from the airports, and offered directions as well.

For instance, Park N’ Jet is 1.96 miles away from O’Hare, and it is listed at only $6.75 per day, a savings of 80% off the price it would cost to park at the airport. It even details the fact that the facility is handicap accessible; so all these details can be tremendously helpful to the folks who require special assistance.

The future is discount technology

Expect to see more and more sites and/or apps like these, ones that use the best of technology to level the playing field and bring comparable deals to users at their fingertips. When I was growing up in the 1970s, to find this sort of information would’ve required a whole bunch of dimes for the payphone and a big Yellow Pages book. However, during these 21st century Information Age days, all it requires is a little bit of knowledge and a device that people can use to search and therefore save.
