You’re browsing through your favorite subreddit, r/awww, and you realize you would buy a million adorable things you’ve seen there. Well, reddit just realized the same thing but they won’t be providing you with the products. Instead, they’re crowdsourcing the effort. On Wednesday, the site announced redditmade, a crowdfunding platform that will mostly be directed at raising funds for the creation and sale of items directed at various subreddit communities.

The introduction states: “We are thrilled to announce an entirely new project that we hope will enhance your experience on reddit, create stronger subreddit communities, allow redditors to collaborate and support each other, and empower redditors to make a difference.”

Campaigns that focus on subreddits will be denoted as featured campaigns on the site and some of them will score advertising on reddit, though if the space has already been sold, the ads can’t be replaced by redditmade campaigns . Reddit makes it easy for both reddit users and new members to start a campaign. Like other crowdfunding sites, users will have 30 days to reach their goals. Reddit will connect users to sourcing partners, help with design and help with production and distribution. Once a campaign reaches the goal, reddit gets the ball rolling on the whole thing. If the campaign never gets off the ground, there’s no money lost to the individual. reddit also stressed that users will never have access to personal information.

Though redditmade is intended mainly to focus on products on reddit, there will be a charitable facet to the whole thing. There’s an option for the profit of each campaign to be donated, whether it be to an individual, charity, event, or organization. Of course, campaigners can also just keep the money for profit for themselves.
