This column is moving up in the photography world with the first Leica model shown here; The LEICA C (Type 112) which is the first in their new compact size range launched a year ago.
The features for the Leica C include;
the 1/1.7” MOS sensor which is the largest in its class 12.8 Megapixels (12.1 effective) a blazingly fast f2 (7x) zoom lens Wi-Fi/NFC connections to your Smartphone mobile or tablet (iPhone or Android) for full remote control or image swap/transfer a user programmable ring around the lens unit also last but not least is EVF viewfinder
It has the shape and size of a point and shoot camera, but that is the only thing it has in common with that class. Calling it a “point and shoot” is, frankly an insult to Ernst Leitz and Oskar Barnack. There are to be no such insults in this column.
So proof of a great camera is not in what it comes with, but rather how it performs. This was tested under different conditions, from straight portrait shots, to enhancing pics with digital filtering, to macro and RAW.
My own personal samples of pictures taken with this masterpiece of evolution appear in my portfolio and include; Photo 1 , Photo 2 , Photo 3 and Photo 4 . You can see many other samples on Google .
Now that you have seen some of its output, lets get in to a tour of the camera. Starting on the top “LEICA C” is engraved, The Wi-Fi unit is just under that. There is the 4 Dolby® stereo anti wind microphone. Then it has the selector dial (for photo type) and the tele/wide selector. Note, much like most compact cameras, there is no hot shoe. However, the flash is more filling than other compact cameras tested here. That is a good thing.
On the back you have the 3” LCD. Then you have the EVF electronic viewfinder with a ±4 diopter adjustment wheel. In terms of that adjustment, I have 20/400 uncorrected vision, and found that with out my glasses, the diopter adjustment gives me next to perfect vision. There is an EVF button to switch between the view finder and the LCD screen, as well as a WiFi button to connect to your network or the smartphone app
Flash modes include;
Auto, Auto /Red eye reduction Slow sync/Red eye reduction ON, OFF. Up to 7 meters
The Leica C is the first Leica camera to feature an integrated Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Connection) module. This allows the wireless transfer of still pictures and video data to Smartphones and tablet PCs via. a WLAN connection. To enable this function, all users need do is download the Leica C Image Shuttle app (FREE) and install it on their iOS or Android devices. This allows for full camera control from a mobile device.
This camera has the ability to be the most professional camera in its class. Even with its complexity, it is extremely easy to learn to use. Any novice can be taking pics like a pro in no time. Learn more at Leica’s website or get a great deal at Amazon.com .
