A major blow to the commercial space flight ventures: Virgin Galactic's SpaceShip Two crashed near Mojave SpacePort in California desert.

After a series of successful test flights, SpaceShip Two crashed this morning just North of the Mojave Air & Space Port in the desert.

The pilot was able to eject and is now in a local hospital after suffering major injuries. Unfortunately, his co-pilot was not able to eject and has been killed immediately at the crash.

The actual cause of the crash is not known yet. Space engineers suspect a faulty engine might have caused the crash.

Virgin Galactic issued the following statement:

"Virgin Galactic’s partner Scaled Composites conducted a powered test flight of SpaceShipTwo earlier today. During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of the vehicle. Our first concern is the status of the pilots, which is unknown at this time. We will work closely with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the accident and provide updates as soon as we are able to do so."

This accident is a major blow to the commercial space flight ventures and especially Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Galactic and a series of other companies. The SpaceShip Two has been developed by Scaled Composites, one of the probably most talented space engineering teams worldwide.

The project was initiated and started by Burt Rutan, one of the best and most advanced airplane and space technology designers.
