What good is a knife if it isn’t sharp? What good is a wine bottle opener if it bends trying to get out an obstinate cork? If those are questions you’ve asked yourself, maybe it’s time you moved up to some better tools. A carpenter is only as good as his tools, and so is a chef. If it’s time to upgrade, consider the Wusthof 7-piece traveler collection.

Wüsthof Gourmet 7-Piece Traveler Knife Set

Doing a little research, it turns out that Wusthof has been making knives since 1814 in Soligen, Germany, renowned as the world’s cutlery capital. After seven generations in the same family, they are now using the latest laser technology to sharpen their “Gourmet” series of knives.

I can honestly say I’ve never held a sharper knife. The way it slid through everything on my cutting board was truly eye opening. I’ve used other peoples’ dull knives before, and therefore thought that our own cutlery was pretty darn sharp. But now, after being spoiled by the Wusthof, I’ll probably never look at another knife the same again.

The set comes with a carrying case and three knives: a 3-1/2” paring knife, a 5” serrated utility knife and a 6” cook’s knife. The handles are all very comfortable to use and three rivets make sure the blades won’t come loose. A pair of heavy duty shears completes the cutting tools.

And what meal isn’t enhanced with a little wine? So, it includes a great quality wine bottle opener, with a feature so many openers omit…the foil cutter, built into the handle.

A keychain knife sharpener rounds out the set and is nicely built with a rubber base to prevent slipping while sharpening.

This particular collection, which would make a perfect gift item, is six of the most needed tools and comes in a flexible, but sturdy zippered case. Whether it’s a picnic, a camping excursion, a barbeque in the backyard or a vacation condo on the other side of the world; it would be great to have a set of tools like this when it comes time for meals.

WARNING: After you’ve used it for the first time, chances are you’ll want the knives to be available full time in your kitchen.
