Internet activist organizations celebrated victory in the recent FCC net neutrality vote by taking a jab at Comcast on Friday by flying a plane with a banner over Comcast's corporate headquarters in Philadelphia.
The banner said, "Comcast: Don't Mess With the Internet." It featured a picture of Grumpy Cat and the hashtags SorryNotSorry and NetNeutrality.
The organization Fight for the Future posted a press release on Tumblr took credit for the stunt, along with Internet activist organizations Demand Progress and Free Press.
According to the press release, Fight for the Future, Demand Progress, and Free Press worked together to organize the popular Net Neutrality activism site BattleForTheNet.com, which also included web tools used on numerous sites counting down to the FCC vote.
The cause for celebration
By a vote of 3 to 2, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on Thursday to adopt the basic concept of net neutrality that that prohibits Internet service providers from granting faster access to companies that pay for the privilege.
Free Press, one of the organizations taking credit for the flying banner stated that the FCC vote was "the biggest victory for the public interest in the agency’s history."
As the largest cable company and home Internet service provider in the United States, Comcast is seen as the evil empire in the net neutrality fight.
