On Friday, March 1st, volunteers across the nation are donating their time as they read books to children in elementary schools to celebrate two occasions. It's Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss' Birthday. The day was created to encourage children to read so that is something they will enjoy as they get older. The children's book author is known for his colorful characters such as "The Cat in the Hat", "The Lorax", and many more. Every year on his birthday, throngs of children enjoy books that are read to them. The books don't have to be Dr. Seuss, volunteers can read other books if they want.

In Phoenix, AZ, Jerry Heikens and Nick Nebelsky will be reading to the children at Washington Elementary School on Northern and 27th Avenue. "This is one of the poorest schools in the valley, and yet the kids are some of the most well-behaved I've ever had the privilege of knowing! I love coming to this school to read for the kids," Nebelsky added. Nebelsky is a local author/illustrator/publisher of several children's books. He hopes to have enough time to read from two of his new books he just published, Sheldon's Adventures and Cornered! Both books help kids realize how important being true to oneself can be and Cornered! is especially devoted to help teach kids about how to stop bullies. Jerry Heikens and Nebelsky met when they both volunteered for Phoenix Philanthropists, a non-profit that Jerry founded. He is now CEO of Philanthropy Educators based in Phoenix, AZ.

Nebelsky will also bring his iPad as his books are available in app form as well. He plans on donating his books to the school's library as well. This is a great day for children and adults to come together and share a something fun that both will enjoy. He encourage others to read to their children not just on this day, but every day. There are a lot of good books out there that have all kinds of messages, and it's just a lot of fun to read to the kids. He tries to do it as often as possible.
