The Steve Wozniak iPhone opinion over why Apple's latest product, the iPhone 5, brings to light why the company may not be as dominant as it once was. Once considered the major innovator in the smartphone space, the company now faces major competition from the likes of Samsung, with other companies jumping into the mix.
A report from Motley Fool on Feb. 8, quotes Wozniak's statement during an interview with Wirthschfts Woche, a German magazine. Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, said in response to the recent "doubts about Apple's continued dominance" when it comes to smartphones:
"Currently we are, in my opinion, in the smartphone business with the features somewhat behind. Others have caught up. Samsung is a great competitor. But precisely because they are currently making great products."
The above quote from Wozniak was loosely translated from German via Google Translate, but may indicate that even those who have built Apple into the major brand it is today have their reasons to doubt the company. Is it possible that without Steve Jobs, the juggernaut of a tech company has lost its major source of faith and inspiration?
Wozniak has previously gone on record with interviewers to praise the Microsoft Windows Phone interface as compared to the display screens on iPhones or Android phones. It seems Wozniak may have his doubts, or is just throwing up a smokescreen while the company plots it next innovation. Whether or not it comes in the form of a smartphone remains to be seen, as there are rumors of several other products in the pipeline this year.
Do you believe Apple can regain its dominance in the smartphone sector, or are those days over for the company?
