It was reported on March 28, 2013, that Mark R. Miscavish, a former state trooper killed his estranged wife Traci and killed himself with a shotgun at the County Market in Philipsburg Thursday.

Traci had files for divorce a few days ago, Mark was also accused of beating her a couple of months ago.

The Police said that he came to the supermarket at around 10:00 a.m. searching for Traci and after finding her at the upstairs office, shot her and killed himself.

Investigators have recovered the shotgun and are investigating further.

Reportedly, Traci suspected her husband was abusing prescription drugs and when she asked him to quit the habit, he slapped her and wrested her to the ground and pinned her arms behind her and bind her with a duct tape.

He was charged with assault and harassment and was sentenced for a week in jail before he was bailed out.

Traci's sister Gina March said to the media after the incident that the system had failed both her sister and her brother-in-law.

"He wasn't in his right mind," March said. "I don't believe he's at fault, I believe he needed help. ... And nobody was there to help him, not the judge, not the cops, not our system, she said."

Mark Miscavish had retired from the state police in 2011 after 15 years of service.
