A new computer tip every day for a year

Yesterday's tip

Day 94 / 365

This is part 2 of file copies, moves and creating shortcuts in Windows Explorer. Click Yesterday's tip for part 1.

A drag/drop sometimes results in a copy, sometimes in a move, and sometimes in a shortcut, depending on the destination and whether the SHIFT and/or CTRL keys are pressed. Yesterday's tip shows you how to do each of these operations. To make sure the correct operation is done you can click and drag with the right mouse button instead of the left one. A menu will appear when the item(s) are dropped. Copy, Move or Copy Shortcut can then be selected from the menu. So if you would like a little help when dragging and dropping, use the right mouse button instead of the left one when you drag and drop.

Anywhere a drop is not allowed , the mouse pointer will indicate it with a circle with a line through it. Dropping item(s) in this context will cancel the drag and drop, or in other words nothing will happen and the drag operation will be canceled.
