The BBC reported on April 8, 2013, that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher died following a massive stroke on Monday.
Lord Tim Bell, spokesman of the family said in a statement, "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning".
Thatcher had been suffering from acute short-term memory loss and poor health over the past decade.
According to reports, she will have a full ceremonial funeral similar to the Queen Elizabeth II's mother in 2002.
Britain's only woman Prime Minister Thatcher who ruled from 1979 to 1990 was 87-years-old.
After hearing the news, British Prime Minister David Cameron said, "We have lost a great leader, a great prime minister and a great Briton."
The BBC quoted a Buckingham Palace spokesman as saying: "The Queen was sad to hear the news of the death of Baroness Thatcher.
"Her Majesty will be sending a private message of sympathy to the family."
London Mayor Boris Johnson tweeted: "Very sad to hear of death of Baroness Thatcher.
"Her memory will live long after the world has forgotten the grey suits of today's politics."
