Yahoo News reported on April 10, 2013, that former U.S. President George W. Bush raised $500 million for his presidential library. The library will be open later this month.
This is said to be the highest post-presidency fundraisers of all time. The Bush library will be dedicated on April 25 and opened to public on May 1, 2013
Mark Langdale, president of the George W. Bush Center SAID, “It was our goal to raise $500 million by the time the George W. Bush Presidential Center was dedicated, and we reached that goal.”
In comparison, former U.S President Bill Clinton had raised 165 million for the presidential library in 2004. But he has raised 100s of millions of dollars to his Clinton foundation.
According to officials, the library has cost an estimated $250 million to build. The rest of the money will go to the George W. Bush foundation.
The names of the donors are not disclosed yet though library officials have praised the campaign and those who have donated.
