It's always a surprise when we hear of celebrities that we assume have a huge cache of money, only to discover that they are dead broke. The latest to shock us is "Game of Thrones" star Lena Headey, who said, it was reported Thursday , that she has only $5 in her bank account.
Headey, who plays the evil Queen Cersei in HBO's hit series, is also known for her role in the hit movie "300." Her dire financial straits were revealed in legal documents Headey filed in response to her estranged husband Peter Loughran's demands for half of their $46,000 tax refund from 2011, which could be considered community property.
In her filing, Headey, 39, said she desperately needs her tax refund to cover her living expenses. Headey and Loughran were wed in 2007, but she filed for divorce last year after the couple separated in 2011. In addition, Headey said she needs $6,000 from the refund herself -- as soon as possible -- because she is living off of credit to support her and their two-year-old son.
Although Headey added that says she expects to receive acting income in the near future, she said she needs a $6,000 advance from the refund right now. She did say that she is willing to give Loughran $6,000 from the refund to cover his living expenses, but she requested to have the rest placed into a two-signature blocked bank account pending a divorce settlement.
However, the judge denied both of their motions: Loughran's emergency motion for half the money, and Headey's proposal for her own advance and a bank account.
