The Washington Post reported on April 19, that Peacock network, NBC has decided not to air the fourth episode of its ambitious new serial killer drama 'Hannibal' in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.
The content of the episode that will go on air next week is said to be violent. In the episode, a character played by actor Molly Shannon brainwashes children to kill other children.
Bryan Fuller, who has developed the television series for NBC, said Variety, "Given the cultural climate right now in the U.S., I think we shouldn't air the episode in its entirety. I didn't want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative reaction."
"With this episode, it wasn’t about the graphic imagery or violence. It was the associations that came with the subject matter that I felt would inhibit the enjoyment of the overall episode," he said. "It was my own sensitivity."
Fuller also said that he started talks with NBC officials a few weeks ago about not airing the episode.
After the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown last year, the Syfy channel had also canceled an episode 'Haven' that had a campus violence story line.
Each episode of the 'Hannibal' series is named after a type of French cuisine. The episode airs at 10:00 p.m. on Thursdays.
