A rusted possible 9/11 plane landing gear part squeezed between a mosque and an apartment building was discovered in Manhattan on Friday, reports the BBC news on April 27, 2013.
This wreckage is considered to be from one of the hijacked airplanes that crashed into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.
According to the police officials the detectives who had communicated with officials at Chicago-based Boeing Co. confirmed that the twisted metal part was from a Boeing 767. Watch video.
Boeing identification number is clearly visible upon the wreckage. However, Boeing spokesman John Dern was unable to affirm whether the identification number matched the American Airlines plane or the United Airlines plane.
The police Commissioner Raymond Kelly stated that the piece of landing gear was occluded in an 18-inch-wide, trash-laden passage between the buildings.
It has cables and levers on it. The wreckage is about 5 feet high, 17 inches wide and 4 feet long.
The metal door hat leads to the hidden back street behind the planned Islamic community center, known as Park51 has been sealed with yellow police tape for further investigation.
