It was reported on April 15, 2013, that the Universal Society of Hinduism has demanded an apology from singer Selena Gomez after she sported a bindi symbol on her forehead during her MTV Movie Awards performance on sunday .
Reportedly Hindu leaders described Selena Gomez's "Gome and Get It" MTV performance as "insensitive" and requested the star not to repeat the same in her upcoming world tour.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed urged the singer to apologize for the mistake and to study more about world religions.
Gomez got many complaints about her costume of choice and bindi combination via Twitter on Sunday.
One user tweeted: "The bindi is not just some fashion accessory you can throw on".
Some of the tweets she received after her performance were:
"Selena Gomez, take that bindi of your head, cultural appropriation is not cute. And neither is your singing," @therealanisha tweeted after the show.
"Someone please tell me why tf Selena Gomez is wearing an indian bindi on her forehead," tweeted @MommaNazaaza during her performance.
