The Inquistr reported on April 12, 2013, that Austin Price, a 15-year-old student at San Lorenzo High School died playing chicken when he failed to jump out of the track of a train in time.
The incident happened when Price and two other boys were playing chicken on the track of a northbound Capitol Corridor train at 6: p.m. on Thursday.
The train was heading to Sacramento from San Jose and the other two friends playing with Price were reportedly unhurt.
Reportedly Austin Price was a fun loving guy and was remembered as boy who made people laugh. The 1,500 students of the school were mourning on Friday with a giant sign reading, “Austin, we’ll miss you.”
San Lorenzo High School principal Tovi Scruggs said inspite of the warning signs and a fence made to keep people off the tracks, people roam around the tracks.
She said, "“It’s an ongoing concern, tragedies don’t happen frequently, but we know the tracks are not staying empty.”
Playing chicken is a very popular game in that area said Austin’s longtime friend Olympia Pereira. “He was a good person — one of those good people you come across every day,” Olympia said. “He genuinely cared.”
