Boston Police report that at least two are dead in the Boston Marathon explosions on Monday, April 15, 2013.


A top Google search on Marathon Monday, CNN spoke with officials that confirmed on Monday afternoon that at least two people died as a result of the Boston Marathon finish line explosions.


A state government source tells CNN that there were "no threats" before the event, but counterterrorism vehicles have been deployed in Boston, New York and Washington, DC.


The White House is also on a heightened state of security and on lockdown as of 3:15 p.m.

A press conference is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. in Boston and includes police and fire officials.


Twenty-two are wounded and being treated at various hospitals in Boston. A spokeswoman for Mass General Hospital tells NBC that four patients were being treated there.


WBZ-TV’s Lisa Hughes states that there were "incredibly powerful explosions just seconds apart."


CNN stated at 4:26 that a bomb has not been confirmed, but law enforcement reportedly found a third bomb in the Copley Square area in Boston. As is typical with breaking news, there are many assumptions but no confirmation yet as to exactly what happened.


Many businesses were closed due to the Boston Marathon . Schools in the area were also closed for the marathon that ended in Copley Square in Boston.

Serghino Rene told MSNBC that he was volunteering near the finish line and heard the explosion.


“We saw two big puffs. I thought maybe it was fireworks. Then it went off again. And then all of a sudden we heard people crying and running away. It was a huge horde of people just running away ... I’m scared and emotional. I’m wondering if there are people who I was volunteering with who were still there and got hurt.”


According to WBZ-TV producer Ken Tucci, “There’s a lot of blood” at the scene.


Almost 27,000 runners competed in the Boston Marathon this year with tens of thousands of people showing up to watch the annual event.


It is unknown if the injured or dead were spectators or runners.
