The stakes over buying wireless carrier Sprint just got a lot more heated today as Dish Network put in an offer of $25.5 billion on the table this morning to buy the wireless carrier. The previous high offer for Sprint was $20.1 billion from Softbank.
It’s more than just money
The shareholders of Sprint may be dizzy with joy as they mull over the possibilities of cashing in on these high offers from Dish Network or Softbank.
But although the huge dollar signs may be very enticing, the Sprint board members must make an important decision that will affect the company forever; whether to keep the company running as it is now, if Softbank is chosen, or take the more lucrative deal from Dish Network, which means a compete take over by the company and the likely result of a shakeup of management and operations.
What if Dish Network wins?
For customers who need fast Internet service and are customers with Dish Network, it would enable them to get Internet access via their satellite dishes through the Sprint network, thus eliminating the need for a router box or connection box. Online data speeds could also theoretically be higher at very competitive prices.
If Sprint is acquired by Dish Network it would give the satellite TV service company a strong offering for TV, home phone and wireless phone services that would compete head-to-head with cable company packages.
With Dish Network’s huge marketing engine, Sprint may become a bigger force in the wireless industry if it is taken over by the satellite company.
