Soap actor William Roache has been accused of two counts of rape against an underage girl on Wednesday, reports the BBC news on May 1, 2013.

Roache’s name has been listed in the Guinness World Records for being the world's longest serving soap actor.

The 81-year-old Roache plays the role of Ken Barlow in "Coronation Street". Last time it was the BBC TV presenter Jimmy Savile who was accused of sex crime.

According to the police reports, Savile was accused of committing sex crimes after his death in 2011.

Many high profile people who were arrested in association with sexual crimes since the Savile investigation began include celebrity publicist Max Clifford, glam-rock singer Gary Glitter and comedian Freddie Starr.

However, all of them deny any wrongdoing. It must be noted that Roache’s arrest has nothing to do with the Savile’s probe.

Roache is scheduled to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court, in northern England, on May 14. He and his representative have remained tight-lipped since his arrest.

Quoting Prosecutor Nazir Afzal, the BBC News mentioned, "We have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Roache to be charged with two offences of rape relating to a girl, aged 15, in 1967."
