The DNA reported on July 11, 2013, that the head of the Russian parliament's foreign affairs committee has said that Edward Snowden has accepted Venezuela's offer of political asylum.
Alexei Pushkov made the statement on his Twitter account today. The presidents of three Latin American countries - Bolivia, Nicaragua and Venezuela had offered to grant Edward Snowden asylum.
Glenn Greenwald, a blogger and columnist for the U.K.’s Guardian, gave an interview to Reuters after an online chat on Tuesday with Snowden.
In an interview with Reuters shortly Glenn said that Venezuela is better poised to get Snowden safely from Moscow and to protect him once he's there.
He later took to Twitter to clarify that he that he was merely stating that Venezuela was most likely option but he really has no idea where Snowden might be going.
Greenwald had worked with Snowden in publishing reports which exposed the level of surveillance conducted by the National Security Agency (NSA) on U.S. citizens' telephone records.
NSA leaker Edward Snowden is believed to be holed up inside a hotel in the transit zone at Moscow's airport.
He has requested for asylum in more than 20 countries. His U.S. passport has been canceled meaning that U.S. allies may deny airspace to his traveling flight.
