As you may already know, Yahoo! Answers is a great site to see what people are asking about all kinds of subjects. I spent some time sorting through the most recent messages and found all kinds of PPC questions. In this post I'm going to tackle a few of them and help our fellow newbies out. ;)

1. What are the various ways to promote an eCommerce site?

We believe in paid marketing. It not only costs money, but it also happens to be the quickest way for us to achieve an ROI. There are two main PPC models out there. Facebook and Google. They both have their pro's and con's.

While people come to Facebook to socialize rather than shop, you can still capitalize on their PPC model. They allow both CPC and CPM. They stand for cost per click and cost per impression.

2. Can you improve the brand image of a business with PPC?

You certainly can. Think about the billboards you pass every day on the way to work. After a few times of seeing them, your curiosity is peeked and you decide to see what they're about. This is especially the case if there's a link of any kind.

This concept is capitalizing on repetition . It usually takes between 7 and 10 times of seeing a message before you decide to purchase something. Every time a potential customer sees your brand, they're being exposed and the law of repetition will work in your favor.

Spending $1,000 on ads in a month is worse than spending $100 a month for 10 months. Let curiosity kill that freaking cat!

3. What is the scope of PPC?

PPC is all about having your ads show up for the search terms related to your business. Make sure you spend time identifying the buyer keywords. If you are struggling to find those, then look for the keywords that pull up competitor ads. If there are only a few ads on the page, then it's probably not as good as a page with every ad position filled up.

In simple terms, your ads show up when people enter terms you bid on. You incur a cost every time that ad is clicked on. There's more to it, but make sure you're sending the traffic to a page that is optimized for sales.

You need to be able to spend a dollar to make two dollars. Watch your costs and make sure you maintain a positive ROI.

4. How do I get free PPC?

Anybody claiming to give you free PPC is probably a scam. From time to time, Google will send you an email with a $100 coupon to use towards PPC. It's wise to claim those coupons. Other companies, like HostGator, send PPC coupons all the time.

5. Where can I get the best training?

The Google AdWords Blog is updating quite frequently with new features, downloads, and tips. When you're just starting out, you need to start with these things and in this order too:

Keyword Research (learn how to identify buyer keywords and use Google's Keyword Tool) Learn about quality scores Learn how to write attractive ads that will get clicked on. (Helpful later on when optimizing for better CTR's) Learn how to create landing pages that will help you achieve a high ROI (so you're not wasting your money)

Conclusion

Now you know where to get the best PPC training, free PPC coupons, the scope of PPC, how to improve the brand image of your business, and how to promote your eCommerce business.
