Just in time for summer comes every person's secret fantasy--a weapon to kill flies. The Bug-A-Salt, which has just become available on Amazon, is an assault weapon for flies. Yes, you can now shoot flies out of the air. I tried it yesterday and my life is now complete. Not bad for $34.95 and free Super Saver shipping.

What it is:

A seriously bad-ass looking manual air-powered shotgun that shoots about a gram of table salt at in a high velocity splatter pattern, both killing and seasoning the insect of your choice. Or, more technically, a surface-to-air weapon that will at last let you achieve air superiority in your home.

How it works

The cup atop the weapon holds enough regular table salt for a summer's worth of heavy engagements, or 50 shots, whichever comes first.

To send your flies to eternity, you begin by racking the slide, which unfortunately, requires a bit of strength. It takes about as much force as racking the slide on my 9mm big girl gun. You pull the slide back (hard to do), then push it forward (easy).

Next step: Undo the safety.

Step three: Get within three feet of your invading bug, aim, and blow it straight to you-know-where.

Finally: Strike a pose and mutter "hasta la vista, baby," or maybe even something less lame, then clean up mess.

Who is it good for:

Adults. Seriously, cute as this thing is, you don't want kids shooting salt into each other's eyes, which you know is exactly what they will end up doing. In the spirit of being a total badass author, I took a hit for you guys and shot myself in the hand. Ouch! Take the warnings seriously, treat this thing like a real gun. Always treat it as if loaded. Don't point it at anything you don't want to hurt. Keep it away from children and idiots.

So, adults only, preferably mature ones with Close Quarters Battle (CQB) experience, a good grasp of tough guy dialog, a badass wardrobe, and, of course, salt.

Pros:

It kills flies! It leaves the flies intact, as opposed to smashed Makes an incredibly cool gift, especially for guys Come on, it lets you shoot flies out of the air It both kills and seasons pests Due to the salt, when used against snails it does double duty as both a conventional weapon and a chemical weapon

Cons:

I'm pretty sure someone's going to manage to get injured with it. Don't let it be you. Some people won't have the strength to rack the slide

Helpful hints:

If you squeeze the trigger and nothing happens, make sure you have pushed the slide forward.
