Hoping to boost sales, Microsoft reduced the price of the Surface RT tablet today. However, the Surface Pro model's price remains unchanged. This is most likely due to the fact that the Surface Pro became available three months after the RT and made up 400,000 of the 1.5 million tablets, reported by Bloomberg last March, to be sold. Consumers may now pick up a 32GB Surface RT for $350 instead of at the previous $500 price point. The 64GB model dropped from $650 to $500.
Expanding the brand, Microsoft may be soon launching their own smart watch to compete with others already on the market, such as Sony's Android-powered SmartWatch and Apple's in-development iWatch . Mashable reports today that the Surface watch is already being worn internally within the company and that it may be available next year. It will apparently be constructed from Oxynitride Aluminum, which is approximately four times harder than glass and up to 80% transparent, and will come in a variety of color options. Obviously, the watch will run on some iteration of the Windows 8 OS, but will have its own radios built-in to "be used independently from a smartphone."
