When it comes gadgets, general computing and operating systems, there are many different ways to communicate between them all. There are also ways to exchange data from each and every one of them.
Let’s say you have an iPhone/iPod or other iOS device, an Android tablet/device, a Windows computer, a Mac Book and even a linux device. Well, how do you manage data, dates, contacts, etc and send it back and forth?
There are not many apps that span all major OS’s and environments. Luckily they reside on all devices owned by this writer.
Drop Box Box Anydo Wunderlist Pocket
With each one of these apps, you can save data on your Android device, view it on your Mac Book or visa versa. You can save it on your Windows PC and view it on your linux device. You can save it on any device and view it on any device.
Lets talk about data. The two major online data repositories as I refer to them as are Dropbox and Box. They both have free storage offerings which are quite generous. You can also buy extra storage space. Both of these online repositories offer multi-platform as well as web based apps. It has been tested on all the aforementioned OS’s including Ubuntu Linux 12x. You can opt for manual or auto uploading on Dropbox. Box is drag and drop.
Anydo is a g-dsend. You can talk to it, type in it and otherwise organize your life. When dictating to it, it recognizes dates, such as next Saturday or three weeks from now, etc. It will sync between all platforms and is web based for Linux users. There is also a Google Chrome extension for the Chrome browser on OSx and Windows. What ever you power up, will show you what your plans are. It will even pop up and tell you “Time to plan your day”. On smart phones, it will also notify you of a missed call for you to call back or make a note to do so.
Wunderlist should be short for Wonderful List App, but that is not all it does. It will sync your data between the iOS devices, Mac OSx devices, Windows devices, Android Devices and anyother device that can type in www.wunderlist.com . It’s just that easy. It is well put together and easy to get around, no matter what platform you are using.
Lastly is Pocket. This ingenious app allows you to save something, a site, a pic, etc This is so useful if you don’t have the time to peruse something at this moment. It also has a Google Chrome extension so you can truly sync with all of your devices. On most devices, it will also add a sendto@pocket.com address in your address book so you can send “stuff” via email.
So go ahead, pick a device, pick any device. Pick many devices. You are sure to be the envy of the organized world with any of these five pics.
