Android has always given their operating system updates a nickname that coincides with a sweet treat or dessert, and this Tuesday, they have announced that the next update, version 4.4, will be referred to as KitKat.
The Verge reported today that Google has begun rolling out all sorts of promotions and contests to let the public know of the new nickname, after securing a deal with Hershey, who owns the trademarked name of the chocolate covered wafer snack.
This nickname replaces the former one of Key Lime Pie for two reasons. One being that some of the Google high-ups don't think too many people know the taste of key lime pie. I know that taste. It's delicious. The other being that KitKats are one of the favorite treats of the team of developers that have been fervently working on this new update.
As part of the promotional deals between Google and Hershey, Kit Kat fans have a chance of winning either a Nexus 7 or Google Play credit on specially marked packages of the chocolate treat.
There are no details as to what new features will be added to Android KitKat.
