Samsung took the stage at IFA this Wednesday and unveiled their entry into the next mobile tech race, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. With an impressively sized screen and small bucket of apps in the works, the Galaxy Gear may be the device that will show the world they need a new type of gadget in their ever growing arsenal.

Here's a short list of what features and specs the Galaxy Gear is packing.

1.63 inch 320 x 320 AMOLED touchscreen On board speaker and mic for video and call usage 800 mHz processor 315 mAh battery 1.9 megapixel camera with auto focus that captures images, as well as three different video qualities, on the wrist band An expected catalog of around 70 apps at launch

There is no official word on price or release date, other than "within weeks" [ Source ]. The smartwatch will most likely be only compatible with Galaxy devices running Android 4.3 and higher, since it connects via Bluetooth 4.0, and 4.3 devices are the only phones that currently have that feature [ Source ].

Drop me a comment below with your thoughts on the first big smartwatch to hit the market. Is this a technology that society as a whole needs? Do you think people will buy it? I'd love to hear your opinion!
