If you have ever forgotten your flash drive at home, or didn’t want to lug around an external drive, try online file storage. It can be quite a useful service.

There are plenty of places online where you can obtain file storage. Should you take advantage of them? YES! Some may charge a fee for their services while others offer their services free of charge, and you can never beat free. The fees that are usually charged are for ‘upgrades’ to normal free service.

Over the years, online storage has gone by different names, such as: Cloud, Vault, Drive, and BriefCase. Whatever the name, it’s all the same. (...and you can consider that rhyme as a freebie!)

Online storage is very handy, especially if you use different computers or do your computing on the go. You can access your files from any computer connected to the internet, and in some instances, you can even access your files from a tablet or mobile device. Some of the services offer a sharing or collaboration feature. They should never be used for illegal activities however. Even though your files are safe, and private, your account will be terminated if it’s found that you’re using a service for any reason other than for what the services are intended. While your content is private, if it’s found that you’re consuming their bandwidth at more than a normal rate, this will raise some red flags.

Four of the many online storage services that you can use right now for free are:

Box - 10gb

Google Drive - 15gb

SkyDrive - 25gb

Mega - 50gb

You’re welcome.

They’re probably not an easier alternative to flash drives or external hard drives, but for the majority of the services out there going for a price of free they can’t be beat. Try one out; you’ll be glad that you did.
