Hashtag #WalmartFights shows what happens when Black Friday deals turn to violence at Walmart stores as Twitter users post first hand photos and videos from today's shopping.
The attached VIBE video tackles the holiday season with the Top 5 Walmart Black Friday fights from years past, there will be plenty of new material to add from this year.
The dark side of holiday shopping is reported in today's edition of business week, "America Finds a New Thanksgiving Tradition in #WalmartFights." According to the article, Twitter users were encouraged to use the hashtag #WalmartFights to document fights seen outside retailers open for for the holiday. The article also shows a few hot and heavy confrontations between Walmart shoppers across the country.
As would be expected, Walmart has an active public relations machine running today. In a Forbes report, Walmart CEO Bill Simon appeared on early morning television shows to address Walmart's position on opening Thanksgiving night, as well as comment on all the social media attention.
Looks like Black Friday 2013 continues the modern social media tradition of using hashtags to report what's trending in society.
