A recent article in the Business Spector is reporting that the majority of HR Professionals in companies small and large are struggling to manage and to fully comprehend the massive influx of freelance employees in the business world. While many HR Representatives tend to think of freelancing employees as “transitory individuals without commitment to the firm”, the same 5-year research study shows the exact opposite view from most professional freelancers. Nearly 80% of freelance professionals take great pride in their work and also take great strides to exceed the expectations of their clients.
This is just a good rule of business. It is always easier to “keep” an existing client than to “find” a new one. And professional freelancers know this rule all too well. However, since most HR Professionals are not directly involved in the world of business on a daily basis, these HR Reps seem to be missing a terrific opportunity as the world of freelancing continues to increasingly evolve and grow. Freelance Sites like Elance and Fiverr are seeing huge boosts in business, leading to several new revisions in their analytics and website offerings. Fiverr, for example, has just revised their freelancing program for their upper echelon of freelancers known as “Top Sellers” by now allowing them to offer services up to $8,200 per order , a $7,700 increase from just last month. For a website that is only three years old, regular Fiverr Blogger Chat seems to be expecting even more revisions and upgrades still to come in 2014.
In fact, Fiverr business has increased to such high levels that they recently “cleaned house” some 6 months ago, getting rid of old gigs and non-active members as a way to speed up their website. Yet, they still manage to offer well over 2 million freelancing gigs at any one time, and this number is expected to reach 3 million by mid- 2014.
Forbes is even singing the praises of the freelance community. Their current estimates state that 1 in 3 Americans are currently self-employed as full-time freelancers, and this number is expected to increase to 50% by the year 2020. From HR Departments’ general lack of understanding about freelancing to the Obamacare Health Insurance Website struggles, it seems as if everyone is underestimating the Power of the Freelancer , except of course for the freelancers themselves.
