I first got introduced to the Drop Cam Echo during St. Peters’ Fiesta in my home town of Gloucester MA. St. Peter is the patron Saint of Fishermen, and this is the “Feast” that honors him. One day I “Googled” the simple phrase “ St Peters Fiesta live cam .” It came up with a live cam showing the Fiesta live as it happened and mentioned it was using a Drop Cam Echo. Well I then “Googled” “Drop Cam Echo” and was introduced to possibly the best live monitoring/security cam ever. You need to signup to view the public cams, but it's free to signup and view.
In perusing the internet recently, the newest Drop Cam came up; The Drop Cam Pro .
By admission, while the manual was extremely well written, installation was so intuitive that it was un-needed. It is a USB based install, and has a simple 4 steps (not including user name creation and account set up).

You can view via the web, or numerous mobile devices including the iPhone/iP(o)(a)d via the free DropCam software on the iTunes store.
It gives you a two week trial of their full features which include 24x & playback and recording. There is value in continuing the service after the trial, making this a true security camera. (please consult local laws on filming others in this manner)
It features include full color streaming video, as well as streaming sound. The sound is bi-directional with the push of a button on your mobile device. This is a perfect feature when the camera is used in a toddlers room. Think about it, you can tell them to get back into bed, calm down and listen in to them sleeping.
It is a true HD camera, broadcasting and recording full HD. It also incorporates nightvision. The nightvision feature comes in handy when the camera is pointed to an outside location. It is crystal clear in all levels of light, weather, etc
The security is fully customizable. You can choose to watch the cam through your own connection, you can share it with friends with a secure (eyes only) link, or go public to the world. Also, Dropcam uses bank-level security to ensure that your live and stored video are safe, even on open wireless networks. You can also choose to make your cam public , (my public cam is here ) as the default is private.
This is a very versatile security camera and perhaps the best as well as most cost effective reviewed here.
