Performance

The excellent performance is what differentiates the Surface Pro from most other Windows tablets. It operates just like a laptop, but in tablet form. The 4th generation 1.7GHz Intel Core i5-3317U processor really speeds things along. I tried Adobe Photoshop CS5, Adobe Illustrator CS5, and other power-hungry programs and they all ran well. The Surface Pro 2 will allow you to leave your regular laptop at home.

The Surface Pro 2 gets warm at times, but not half as warm as the original Surface Pro. This is due to the updated Haswell processor, which also allows for much better battery life.

Type Cover 2

The Type Cover keyboard has improved. Not only do the keys now light up, but the amount of pressure you need to put on the keys is less. However, the trackpad is still as awful as ever. If you don't try to select text, you'll be fine. If you constantly select text from documents or websites, you are in for quite an adventure.

Windows 8.1

The updated Windows operating system on the Surface Pro 2 makes a huge difference. For one thing, the Start button is finally back. Once you press the Start button, it takes you to to all of your programs. It's an absolute must for the average consumer and Microsoft was crazy not to originally include it with Windows 8.

The SkyDrive cloud storage service is also more tightly woven into Windows 8.1. SkyDrive now doesn't just make your cloud files look and feel native inside Windows, but it will also sync all your Windows and app settings on the fly, so that you don't have to reconfigure every Windows 8.1 device you use.
