On September 15, 2014, Fiverr announced that their freelancing website is going to be hitting the television broadcasts in the very near future. The first of many coming TV commercials hawking their millions of services starting at only $5 will soon be airing nationwide across the United States.

This is something new for an online freelancing community of this kind. Other competing sites like oDesk and Freelancer have not yet entered into the TV advertising world. But will this new advertising strategy help or hurt the Fiverr brand?

Where Fiverr differs from other similar freelancing communities in is its rather unique strategy of promoting a fun and exciting way for buyers and sellers to interact. Fiverr offers online forums to ask and answer questions from both buyers and sellers alike, provides insightful advice on how to improve customer relations and increase revenues on their daily blog updates, and even offers a way for individual members to chat and trade ideas with one another.

Competing sites like ODesk and Freelancer tend to frown on these types of interactions because it might lead to creating outside partnerships that can take money out of their company coffers. But Fiverr seems to thrive on promoting a sense of camaraderie and fellowship among its individual members, helping to take some of the boredom out of working from home day-to-day.

A recent article from Women’s Agenda posted On September 14, 2014, talks about how some freelancing professionals who work from home can easily become starved for human contact . The writer of the article admits to wasting a great deal of time playing around on Facebook and looking at YouTube videos of cute puppies throughout the day as an attempt to spice up an otherwise tedious workday.

Fiverr provides alternatives to these time-sucking endeavors, right on their own website. The television commercials will likely highlight the friendly atmosphere of Fiverr, attracting both buyers and sellers of freelancing services for a wide range of businesses and entrepreneurs. The first TV commercial is currently available on the Fiverr YouTube Channel.
